Providing a safe water supply to a rural village saves lives by reducing water-borne diseases
Water is a basic need that too many go without
Did you know that according to the World Health Organisation, 1 in 9 people world wide do not have access to safe and clean drinking water? In fact, in developing countries, as much as 80% of illnesses are linked to poor water and sanitation conditions. The link between access to safe water and the overall health status of people is undeniable.
Water and sanitation strategies form an essential part of poverty reduction, especially to rural communities, and can break the poverty cycle and alleviate preventable water-borne diseases.
How BridgIT Water helps
The focus of BridgIT Water Foundation is to provide safe drinking water to some of the poorest, most marginalised people in rural communities in developing countries. Delivering suitable, accessible and sustainable water solutions within each rural community relieves the economic and health burdens associated with walking long distances to collect water from open, contaminated and often dangerous sources by providing essential, safe, drinking water to communities in desperate need of access to clean water.
The well being and health of children and women is the central theme of all our programs. Education and enterprise are the key to sustainable and self perpetuating development. BridgIT Water believes in empowering communities to create their own solutions to free them from the constant search for water.
How you can get involved
BridgIT Water has impacted more than 230,000 people worldwide with clean safe water
Unsafe water causes death and disease.
If your only water supply was out of an open source the same as an animal, you would want someone to help. Water-borne diseases such as typhoid, dysentery, cholera and diarrhea are extremely high from dangerous water sources.
