Why We Are
Donate Now Button If you could tomorrow morning make water clean in the world, you would have done, in one fell swoop, the best thing you could have done for improving human health by improving environmental quality" - William C. Clark (speech April 1988)

BridgIT Water Foundation is committed to using our expertise in helping to alleviate the magnitude of the statistics below.
As said by Koffi Anan.
"We have to give our fellow citizens, not only within each nation but in the global community, at least a chance to share in our prosperity".

Populations without access to safe drinking water    Our basic water needs

Around 1.1 billion people globally do not have access to improved water supply sources whereas 2.4 billion people do not have access to any type of improved sanitation facility.  About 2 million people die every year due to diarrhoeal diseases, most of them are children less than 5 years of age.  The most affected are the populations in developing countries, living in extreme conditions of poverty, normally peri-urban dwellers or rural inhabitants.
provide safe, secure and sustainable water collection, storage and distribution systems to small and low key education, health and welfare organisations in developing societies and developing nations throughout the world.

Among the main problems which are responsible for this situation are:  lack of priority given to the sector, lack of financial resources, lack of sustainability of water supply and sanitation services, poor hygiene behaviours, and inadequate sanitation in public places including hospitals, health centres and schools.  Providing access to sufficient quantities of safe water, the provision of facilities for sanitary disposal of excreta, and introducing sound hygiene behaviours are of capital importance to reduce the burden of disease caused by these risk factors.

Drinking Water & Sanitation

The UN suggest that each person needs 20-25 litres of safe freshwater a day to ensure their basic needs for drinking, cooking and cleaning.

More than one in six people worldwide - 894 million - don't have access to this amount of safe fresh water.

By 2025, 1,800 million people will be living in countries or regions with absolute water scarcity and two thirds of the world population could be under stress conditions.

Globally, diarrhoea is the leading cause of illness and death, and 88% of diarrhoeal deaths are due to a lack of access to sanitation facilities, together with inadequate availability of water for hygiene and unsafe drinking water.

Today 2.5 billion people, including almost one billion children, live without even basic sanitation.  Every 20 seconds, a child dies as a result of poor sanitation.  That's 1.5 million preventable deaths each year.
